The taxpayer-funded Canadian Broadcast Company decided to show how wisely it uses taxpayer dollars, by displaying a "chia vulva" from one of its alleged comedies in honor of "Chia Pet Day."

The clip is from the show "Sort Of", featuring actors Bilal Baig and Amanda Cordner.

A description for the show reads that "the series stars Baig as Sabi Mehboob, a non-binary millennial trying to balance their roles as a child of Pakistani immigrant parents, a bartender at an LGBTQ bookstore and café, and a caregiver to the young children of a professional couple."

The large "chia vulvas" are featured in a clip that discusses Germany's third gender option on birth certificates.

Quillette editor Jonathan Kay said that taxpayers should be able to see the download/viewership numbers for Gem shows.

The CBC is watched by just three percent of the Canadian population, yet it is funded by 100 percent of the population.

According to a Globe and Mail article, Despite the CBC's chronically uninterested audience, the crown broadcasting company spends a fortune on underwhelming products.

The public broadcaster’s shrinking audience and relevancy have led to ad revenues dropping 53 percent from 2014 to that of 2019.

In the first six months of 2014, the CBC pulled in $192.2 million in ad revenues. In the first half of 2019 that overall number had dropped to $90.9 million. In the first six months of 2017, the CBC brought in 92.8 million in ad revenues, almost $2 million more than this year.

"I often joke it is easier to manage growth than downsizing,” said CBC’s Radio Canada’s executive vice-president Michel Bissonnette at the Commons heritage committee in 2019. “Unfortunately we are in a downsizing environment, and we have to maintain our services for all Canadians."
